  1. Cosco announced it has delivered a bulk carrier of 80,000 dwt to its European buyer.

News Updates:

  1. Confidence among U.S. consumers increased more than forecast in December to the highest level in six months at the same time Americans began stepping up holiday spending. The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan preliminary index of consumer sentiment rose to 74.2 from 71.6 at the end of November. Economists projected a December reading of 72.5, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey.
  2. U.S. trade deficit shrank 13% to $38.7 billion.
  3. China’s Consumer Price Index in November jumped 5.1% from a year-earlier to hit the highest level in more than two years.
  4. China’s Producer Price Index also climbed by a faster-than-expected 6.1% from the year-ago period.
  5. China’s Monthly Industrial Production jumped 13.3% and retail sales accelerated 18.7%, while urban fixed asset investment for the first 11 months of the year rose 24.9% from the corresponding period of 2009.
  6. People’s Bank of China raised banks’ reserve rate requirements by half-a-percentage point
