Singapore Stock Market Updates On 11/03/11
Singapore stocks fell in opening trades, with STI down 22.37 points to open at 3053.07. Other Asian stock markets were also weaker as signs of growing political instability in the Middle East and North Africa fueled fears of a spike in oil prices that would undermine global economic growth.
News Updates:
- Dow Jones Industrial Average finished with its biggest point and percentage drop since Aug. 11 as it shed 228.48 points, or 1.87%, to 11984.61.
- U.S. imports jumped 5.2%, the most since 1993, while exports grew 2.7%.
- U.S initial claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose for the week ended March 5.
- China February Consumer Price Index (CPI) rises 4.9% on-year and February Producer Price Index (PPI) rises 7.2% on-year.
